On the 16th of March, the sleepy little fishing village of Chaloklum on the north side of Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand was alive with music, drinks and a massive, free Mexican-Style buffet in celebration of the island’s first PADI Instructor Exam!

I had the privilege of conducting an IDC for a former student who now owns an amazing little dive center- Sail Rock Divers. Alex Arnold and his lovely wife Rachel were able to round up 7 eager PADI Divemasters from a number of shops around the island who were ready to make the step to Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Better known for it’s famous Full Moon Party on the south of the island, Koh Phangan is a sleeping giant of the dive industry. Just 15 minutes away from Sail Rock- one of the world’s best dive sites, and a number of stunning fringing reefs, my guess is it won’t be long before divers will find this place.

Thailand Gap Year internships will soon be offering our internship packages to those looking for a change of pace from the bustling Koh Tao dive scene. I look forward to returning in a few months to again work with Neil and Stefan- two of the best PADI Master Instructors I’ve ever had assisting me! They made my transition from Koh Tao seamless and were an integral part of maintaining the TGI 100% success rate on the PADI Instructor Exam.
