Just as 2009 ended with a “Bang!”, so has 2010 begun. The New Year’s Eve party on Sairee Beach was spectacular if a bit less busy this year than in years past. It could have had something to do with the 4-day trance party being held up in the mountains. Not exactly sure what that was about, I think perhaps some zombied-out hippies got lost on their way to the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party!<\/p>\n
Most of the sensible people spent the Koh Tao New Year between Vibe Bar and Fizz Bar on the beach. The weather was beautiful\u00a0 and the sky was alight with fireworks and Thai “Sky Lanterns”. We had great music, food and drinks and more than a little dancing into the wee hours of the morning.<\/p>\n
If the party was lacking a few people, they showed up soon after. The island’s gone absolutely mental with people looking to take advantage of some of the best diving conditions in ages and the chance to see bull sharks and whalesharks together on a single dive! I think in my time here, I haven’t seen so many arrivals in a single day!<\/p>\n
The internships have started spectacularly for 2010, as well. Today, Colby took a break from his PADI Divemaster course to begin the BSAC Professional HD Underwater Videographer<\/a> training with our video team at Oceans Below. He’s been joined by Jenny, a Divemaster from another dive centre on the island.
