Who are we?The staff at Thailand Gap Internships are seasoned tourism industry professionals, running businesses on Koh Tao for many years. During our time in Thailand, we've developed a network which allows us to bring together a fantastic offering of all the best adventure activities available at unbeatable value - that's what Thailand Gap Internships is all about. We offer a full complement of professional-level training internships that allow ambitious students to train, get certified and work in a number of fantastic fields in one of the most idyllic places on Earth, or anywhere else for that matter!! The owners of the company, Gary and Darius- good friends and sometime tech dive buddies, have been based on this stunning island for a combined 17 years. Darius, 39 years old and newly married, first came to Koh Tao in 1998 and has lived here ever since. He graduated in 1993 from the University of North Texas with a degree in Environmental Ethics through the Philosophy Department. Prior to his arrival on Koh Tao, he worked for Kodak Imaging Systems in the US as a National Account Representative and Sales Trainer. He’s worked in the dive industry continuously for the past 11 years- first as a PADI scuba instructor and now as the island’s most successful trainer of PADI instructors. He’s long been helping to make people’s scuba diving dreams come true and his past trainees are employed in virtually every dive center on the island as well as in many countries all over the world. He’s an avid fan of both American and REAL football [soccer] and enjoys throwing barbecues for a few or 40 of his friends!! In 2001, Darius opened the island’s only fitness center- Monsoon Gym and since then the only thing that has grown on him is his ample waistline. The second partner - Gary, has been in Thailand since 2003. After graduating from the University of Bath [UK] with a First Class Masters Degree in Chemistry with Industrial Training, he spent time teaching scuba diving, working as both a PADI and SSI instructor on Koh Tao. This quickly led to a management position, then the big step up to dive shop ownership during which time he was the driving force for establishing one of Koh Tao's PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centers. Now semi-retired at the age of 29, Gary is focused on the task of providing gap year internships, giving other individuals the chance to enjoy the incredible opportunities he's experienced during his time in Thailand. His main passion is deep sea technical diving, seeking out lost ship wrecks throughout the Gulf of Thailand and beyond, leading him to get involved in many crazy adventures....
These guys have been involved in a number of different projects over the years and continue to play a role in the positive development of the island. The strong contacts they have made amongst the Thai locals and the Western business people have continued to make this island an easier place to live and work for the people that come into their programs. Their extensive contacts on the island mean they have a great track record for finding work for their interns. They are also useful in dealing with such day-to-day concerns as how to fill out a police report in the event of a lost camera, which taxi or taxi-boat driver to use for a trip to the other side of Koh Tao or to a neighboring island, and which motorbike rental shops are the most lenient for damages to equipment. It's definitely an advantage having these guys looking out for you! Latest Koh Tao insternships news
