Thailand Gap Year Internships- 2010 Sees Expansion in Training Programs!

2010 has been another fantastic year for the crew of Thailand Gap Internships! We’ve overseen Koh Tao’s most successful Instructor Development Course (IDC) which successfully saw 102 people make their way through to the ranks of PADI Dive Instructor this year. Darius, our Course Director also completed the first ever IDC and Instructor Exam on the neighboring island of Koh Phangan and looks forward to working with the crew from Sail Rock Divers again for a few more IDC’s in the coming year.

Our Video team has further strengthened their position on the island with the addition of another fantastic dive center- Scuba Junction to the list of their many contracts.  They moved into their new custom-built offices in July and are enjoying working out of the best-appointed video editing studios in the region. They have also written a new course
curriculum for a freediving videography internship which they run in conjunction with our freedive training center. And with the addition of the island’s most advanced HD broadcast quality camera and housing, the SONY EX1R, they
have introduced to Koh Tao an Advanced Documentary Filmmaker course.

Our Muay Thai training camp has seen hundreds of students come through the doors with many of them daring to get into the ring on one of our twice monthly events for a real, paid Muay Thai bout. Kwanthai, our former trainer and sometime guest on Koh Tao, just won the WBC World Straw Weight title in traditional boxing and we look forward to him defending his title in mid 2011.

In 2010, TGI trained close to 140 Divemasters through their scuba diving internship program and untold numbers for various components of our Marine Conservation, Freediving and Rock Climbing programs. In the coming year, we expect to expand our technical and cave diving courses with the introduction of Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) training. And for something completely different, we will also be adding month-long Trapeze Performer internships!

We’d like to thank all of those that have trusted TGI to organize their Gap Year Internships and we look forward to another great year in 2011!
