Overview
Recognized as one of the best, most demanding martial arts in the world, Muay Thai has been fully embraced in the West for decades as a great way of training to improve movement, striking power, work rate, accuracy and conditioning. Fighters from different disciplines have long been coming to Thailand to learn the secrets of this truly amazing art form. A glance on telly during UFC and WEC events reveals that virtually everyone in the fight game has made it a priority to study this discipline.
Whether you’re looking to fine-tune your skills for another sport or you simply want to sculpt your body and get into the absolute BEST shape of your life, the Monsoon Gym and Muay Thai camp will deliver.

| Daily Schedule
Our tuition starts everyday, bright and early, with a run to get the blood flowing and open your lungs for a demanding day. The runs include short sprints both up/down hill to improve footwork and breathing control. This is followed by a few minutes of shadow-boxing or skipping rope to again help with your footwork. Back at the camp you’ll spend a bit of time doing some bag work- punching, kicking, kneeing and elbow strikes to further increase your stamina and strike force. Now that you’re warmed up, you’ll go one-on-one with one of our trainers who’ll be in full pads (shin, stomach, hand) and you’ll get a chance to work more on technique, reaction time, stances, and get a much better idea of distances and range-finding. |
You’ll do a number of 3-5 minute rounds with the trainers depending on your conditioning and then finish off the session with sit-ups to strengthen the core and shadow–boxing and stretching to prevent injury. For those training for fights, further running and sparring will be incorporated into the schedule. You’ll also be encouraged to do some weight training in our fully acquitted Monsoon Gym. One day a week will be an off day where you are encouraged to relax, recover, and enjoy the fantastic beaches of Koh Tao. |

Thailand Gap Internships- News From Koh Tao |
Last night the crew from Thailand Gap Internships went out to Monsoon Gym for a fight night to support Abdi- one of our Muay Thai internship trainees. It was a great night and in his first pro fight (he was paid 1500 Thai baht- about 45USD!), he put on an awesome show in a full time judge's decision victory! Despite the fact that he'd only been training on Koh Tao for 6 weeks and his opponent had about 20 fights under his belt, he showed a lot of heart in a hard won effort which made us all proud. Pre-fight...
 It's on!
Declared the winner as Pi Toon, the co-owner of Monsoon Gym and Muay Thai Camp, looks on (in yellow...)
In other news the Master Scuba Diver Internship is now underway with the last group of new PADI Dive Instructors. We've completed Enriched Air Nitrox training along with Search and Recovery, Digital Underwater Photography, Deep Diver and Underwater Naturalist. As the weather is getting good now, we'll plan a day on the boat soon to the Unicorn wreck so we can complete our Wreck Diver Specialty Instructor with our friends from the MV Trident. Professional HD Underwater Video intern Rudey just began her course a few days ago and we look forward to Alvin and Simon joining on the 1st. If only we had a Theodore, we'd be starting all of The Chipmunks on the Pro video course! The Freediving team is also back on the island and will be starting courses soon. Koh Tao's weather has been absolutley stunning for this time of the year with the shortest monsoon season that any of us can remember, so far. I'm sure it will turn again before it's over, but we're all enjoying it now! Abdi and his mentor- a true Thai Champion...
